So bad…It is good. Watching the Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs has given me the chance to see a few movies I have never seen. I am surprised I missed this in the late 1980s. I think I was way more main stream back then, watching films like A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Friday the 13th VII, Halloween 4, although in the early mid-90s, I would have seen this on USA Up All Night with Rhonda Shear and I know i aw an episode with Linnea Quigley. Anyway, I missed it and got to see it with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder’s the Last Drive-In.
As part of a sorority ritual, pledges and their male companions steal a trophy from a bowling alley; unbeknownst to them, it contains a devilish imp who makes their lives a living Hell.
So, originally title was The Imp. I love the newer title that probably caught a wider audience. Who doesn’t love Sorority Babes? There were so many back in the 1989s, Sorority House Massacre not to be confused with Slumber Party Massacre of course and House on Sorority Row. The Indie film the Sleeper centers around a Sorority House set in 1981…Not sure why I went into all of that. Lisa(Michelle Bauer) and Taffy(Brinke Stevens) are pledging the smallest Sorority on Earth. After being smacked with a paddle, way too much and getting whip creamed, they are spied on taking a shower, not really effective shower, by a bunch of nerdy guys watch and get caught. The president of the Sorority makes all five of them have to steal a trophy from the bowling alley. The group meets Spider(Linnea Quigley) who is robbing the place. They awaken the Imp and he offers them wishes, as fast as they come true, the go badly.
The movie, is just silly as shit, I mean Brinke Stevens character is named Taffy and her death, well she is pulled apart like taffy. There are some interesting things, there is a gender reversal, Linnea Quigley is the strong leader type and she is badass in this movie. This may be one of her better roles, spouting all kinds of one liners and vulgarities, she is wonderful as the lead. The Imp is nearly unstoppable, but almost does nothing. The old janitor is amazing, he cannot hear a thing and the scene with Andras Jones and Linnea is cinematic gold.
Sure it isn’t the best movie, but I can see it being a fun movie to watch with friends back in the late-80s and early to mid-90s. I did enjoy it, even if it is really not very good. Eh, it was a good time, especially watching on Shudder with Joe Bob and his interruptions with knowledge of the film’s production.
IMDB.com has a rating of 4.7
Yeah, that is pretty fair, it isn’t very good, but I still loved it, 80s cheese factor ranks totally high, 4.8
If you haven’t signed up for Shudder, do so and watch all 13 movies hosted by Joe Bob Briggs, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama is on there and Rayzor says…check it out, so does Joe Bob.
