Review: Crossbreed (2018)

Game Over Man! Game Over!

Sci-fi action/horror film Crossbreed is a low budget, cyber-punk adventure directed by Brandon Slagle (House of Manson). Starring Vivica A.Fox (Kill Bill) Daniel Baldwin (John Carpenter’s Vampires) and Vernon Wells ( The Road Warrior, Commando), Crossbreed sets the pace as a group of mercenaries board a space craft on a mission to retrieve a top secret bio weapon.

Crossbreed premiering February 5, 2019 on VOD from Uncork’d Entertainment.

When the group of mercenaries, led by Stink Fisher( Invincible ), encounter the Bio Weapon, played by Devanny Pinn (Bus Party to Hell, House of Manson)  all hell breaks loose. Crossbreed made some great buzz when The Hollywood Reporter shared that Vivica A. Fox was playing the “first cinematic African-American female” President of the United States. Sharknado also made references in the film, The Last Sharknado, when Fox’s character “Skye” had a political ad announcing a presidential run.

Crossbreed is 90 minutes of mercenaries screaming “FUCK YOU” and “WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!” with underwhelming action and bland visual/audio FX. The Alien was a sight for sore eyes, making practical effects this movie’s best friend.

Crossbreed just kind of fell apart pretty early on with it’s story and message. From what I gathered, Crossbreed looked like a hot mess of egos, editing and ambition. I really like House of Manson and I don’t believe this movie is a reflection on the director but I will say that Crossbreed is best viewed once.

3/10***
