April 5th is not too far off and the remake, reboot, re-imagining or what ever of Stephen King’s 1983 book Pet Sematary is coming. A new trailer dropped today and very much like the style of Terminator Genesys in 2015, it gave away a major plot point and a huge change from the book and the 1989 Mary Lambert film. Oh and the actor playing Louis Creed in the 2019 Pet Sematary, Jason Clarke…he was in Terminator Genesys, not a good omen.
Dr. Louis Creed and his wife, Rachel, relocate from Boston to rural Maine with their two young children. The couple soon discover a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near their new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his neighbor Jud Crandall, setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unspeakable evil with horrific consequences
Ok, now that you have seen the trailer. So, rather than killing Gage, they kill and bring back Ellie. What in the fuck? Now you may have seen this on our Facebook page, but I personally am just now seeing the trailer and not happy. I get that you cannot make the same movie, sure. But, that was one of the big parts of the original and the book. I always hoped there was more to Ellie, she seemed to have some kind of power, akin to Danny’s Shining from “The Shining”. She saw things, I had hopes this movie would spawn a sequel featuring Ellie.
Eh, I will give it a chance, but we do still have the book and certainly the 1989 film still stands and it has aged well. Sometimes movies should not be remade.
