Ray “Rayzilla” Cannella has had an unhealthy obsession with horror and science fiction films since the age of 9. From that early age, Ray knew he wanted a career in film & television. Years of education and field work paid off when Ray became a member of the Programming team that launched the Sci-Fi Channel on September 24th 1992.
In 1999 Ray was responsible for what would become one of Sci-Fi Channels most endearing Programming events, the Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie. For over the next decade Ray would work with an amazing collection of Sci-Fi/horror luminaries like Mary Lambert, Bruce Campbell and his personal hero, Roger Corman. While uncredited for his work, Ray was an Executive Producer for well over 100 original movies. One highlight of Ray’s creative contributions came in the form of “Mansquito” for which he wrote the story. To this day the vast majority of Ray’s films still air on the channel.
No matter if you grew up watching Sci-Fi Channel as a kid or as an adult in the 90’s and 00’s, Ray had a major impact on what you saw.
In 2013 Ray moved from cable to the new digital frontier where again he was instrumental in the launching of Screambox, the worlds first OTT subscription horror video service. There Ray served as Head of Programming/Curation and was the channel’s official on-camera host from 2013 through 2016.
Today Ray owns and operates his own Media Consulting Firm offering his years of expertise in content production, acquisition and distribution across tradition and emerging platforms. Being a member of The Horror Syndicate allows Ray to lend his life-long passion for horror films to the conversation along with his strong industry insight. As Ray is fond of saying, “I make no excuses for my taste in entertainment and neither should you!”
