A Nightmare on Elm Street is by far my favorite horror franchise, followed closely by Friday the 13th and Halloween. When talking body counts or kill counts, Freddy doesn’t really raise too many eyes. Freddy or Elm Street movies are not really slashers in the sense of a body count. Most of the time Freddy’s kill count is low, like four or five. But, Freddy deserves a kill count too and you know what, we will call them “kill counts” rather than body count.
We will break this down by each movie and have a total and, an average per movie just like we did for Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th average kill count per movie is 16.9 per movie. I am sure Elm Street’s will be lower.
I suppose we will have to do one for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I’d bet that would be low, maybe Chucky. I do think this October we will do Halloween’s kill count. But nothing, nothing compares to Jason’s kill count.
Ok lets do this.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Nancy and her friends are stalked by the man with knives for fingers. But, there are only four of them total. The biggest question mark for me is Nancy’s mother, Marge. She dies twice, kind of…but it still counts as once, because she is dead. With Tina, Rod and Glen it brings the total to 4.
So, you see, this movie didn’t need a ton of kills to make a it terrifying. So 4 and the average Kill per movie or KPM (4.0)
Favorite kill, these are harder that the Friday the 13th movies, they were instant. Freddy messed with them in the dream world, so they mean more. But, it has to be Tina, without a doubt.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985)
This one is admittedly tougher. You have to question a few things. Firstly, how many people is Jesse responsible for? Also, how many did Freddy kill at the pool party. The third question, does Kerry die at the end? If not for the Lisa’s pool party, this would be two kills, well if you take Kerry out also. But, with the pool party and Kerry, not to mention Grady and Schneider, 10 kills in this one. Who is responsible, Freddy. I mean, Jesse really didn’t ask for what Freddy made him do.
This brings the overall total to 14 and the KPM to 7.0.
Best kill…is there one? We did talk about Kerry a bunch, its fun, even if it is a question.
A Nightmare on Em Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
Is it me, or did too many survive this movie. It was three Dream Warriors and Dr. Gordon, but there were two major and heart wrenching deaths towards the end of this one. Freddy was able to kill off four of the Dream Warriors and the two hold overs from the original movie. This brings to kill count to 6 for Dream Warriors.
Now, we are getting somewhere, this bring the total to 20 over 3 movies. The KPM 6.7
Favorite Kill, this is tough. Phillip’s is so good, but the obvious answer is Jennifer…or is it Taryn?
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988)
Lisa Wilcox kicks Freddy’s ass in this one as she claims the title of “Dream Master”. But, before she does that, Freddy kills, pretty much her entire circle of friends, leaving her with Dan. Of course in the next movie, she does have new friends, but Sheila and Debbie, gone. Not to mention Rick and Kristin. This is my favorite of the series, other than the original, but which is the best kill and how many? Well, Freddy cleans up his mess from and finishes off the Dream Warriors. We can add Sheila, Rick and Debbie to the list to make it 6, bringing the total to 26 and the average KPM 6.5
Favorite Kill…
A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989)
Another movie with a low kill count, but the kills are…chef’s kiss! That is one of the good things about the Elm Street series, quality!
But, 3, there are 3 kills in Dream Child which brings the total to 29, and KPM to 5.8.
Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)
Should we count Freddy? I mean, he gets three in this one and he gets his…by his daughter. I honestly think the kills are a bit weak. But…hey Spence…lets trip out.
4 Total kills KPM 5.5 Freddy has 32.
Spencer…
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994)
I am not sure if any of these count because of the type of movie it is. For the sake of this list, we will count them! It is still Freddy and he has crossed over. So, we’ve got another four to add. This brings the total to 37, Freddy has 36 of them. This KPM drops again to 5.3.
Favorite kill.
Freddy vs Jason (2003)
Yikes, this one…Well Freddy kills 1 person…1!!! Jason takes care of the rest and it is substantial. This plays well as a Friday the 13th movie, not so much. Twenty total kills in this movie, insane. 57 total.
So, this will make the KPM number from 5.3 to 7.1, but Freddy’s kill count is up to 37 and 4.6 KPM.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
Most seem to hate the remake. But, where it may have lacked in places, it makes up for in kills, even if they are CGI riddled. Well, maybe not a ton, but there are 5 more to add to the list. This brings the total to 62 over 9 movies. The KPM is 6.9 and Freddy kills are up to 42.
This is the list, remember in October, Halloween Kill Count is coming!
