We are going to do a short review of the Mill Creek Blu Ray release and what is called the 50th Anniversary Edition of Night of the Living Dead.
There were a few people who were clamoring about this release, excited that we were getting a U.S. Blu Ray edition of the horror classic, Night of the Living Dead. There are some that are holding out hope for a release of the Criterion edition, which has no release date, but with 2018 coming very close, I would bet next year it will be released. So how does this edition of George Romero’s immortal horror classic match up to other releases?
This edition is purely for the super fan, the completionist collector who needs everything or everything Night of the Living Dead. If you’re simply wanting to update you’re DVD to Blu Ray, well that is absolutely not needed with this edition at all. Let me explain.
The quality of Night of the Living Dead is something that is going to be hard to fix. But this release, it simply looks darker than my DVD. The sound is about the same as my DVD. So overall, its about a 2 out of 5 for quality. The special features…wait, there are no special features. So, for 8 to 10 bucks, I don’t think it is worth it, especially when there are so many DVD versions available and really not much different. I would wait for the Criterion, if that actually happens. It is very simple, but I love the cover art.
Happy Hunting.
