Ugh…I feel bad for Kane Hodder.
Well that is not a good way to start off a review now is it? Jason X…what to say? Well, I remember before it got a DVD release there was plenty of stigma in trying to get a way to see it. There were really horrible bootlegs available and that was the way I saw it for the first time. I tried to watch a bootleg, but I did not make it past the intro, it was terrible. I saw Jason chained up with his fuzzy hair and upturned nose mask, he also seemd to be human again, the make up was minimal. Some people say the make up and Jason’s looking Jason Goes to Hell is the worst, but damn it, I think Jason X, pre-Uber Jason looks the worst. Kane is a big dude, but he looks flat out fat and the mask is shitty looking.
By the way, Hockey fans, according the Jason X, Hockey is outlawed in 2024, so 7 more years.
Synopsis:
The year is 2455. The Place is Old Earth. Once the shimmering blue jewel of the galaxy, Old Earth is now a contaminated planet abandoned for centuries. Yet humans have returned to the deadly place that they once fled. Not to live, but to research the ancient rusting artifacts of the bygone civilizations that caused this environmental disaster. And little does the most recent landing party of intrepid young explorers realize the fate that awaits them.
What went well about this movie? Uber Jason, everyone loves Uber Jason. Sure he looked kind of cool, but it was short lived. I loved some of the kills in the movie, there is one that is simply a classic.
A couple of other things, like the holographic Crystal Lake and Jason beats the girls in the sleeping bag. But, for the most part that is about it. Kills are always good in any movie with Jason attached to it.
But, this really is another New Line stinker. Everything looks like an early 1990s idea of what the super future would look like. Neon and strange, “Fifth Element” looking costumes, eh. I still don’t understand the mask, it looks so shitty. CGI was still a newer technology, but it was freaking terrible in this one. I could be wrong, but what this a movie that New Line had to make to retain the writes to Jason? Let’s make a new Jason movie…in space. Yes, we have to call it a “Jason Movie” because Paramount owned the rights to the title, “Friday the 13th”.
I keep saying Jason Goes to Hell is my least favorite overall, but damn it if this movie isn’t terrible. Jason Goes to Hell was something different and a couple of things were shitty about the script, but Jason X is a crap fest. I mean it is literally the same formula that people bitched about for years, only the setting has changed to make it really bad.
I don’t know, am I being too tough on Jason X? This is one I have never liked and I just don’t get why they break from Crystal Lake, I mean Jason Takes Manhattan wasn’t the best move, but it was miles better than sending Jason to space. It didn’t work in Hellraiser and it sure as hell did not work in Leprechaun. You want horror in space, watch Alien or Event Horizon. This movie killed the Friday the 13th series…well…New Line killed the series.

I do feel bad for Kane Hodder, he had the chance to play Jason four times. Three of the four movies are considered the worst in the series or THE worst in the series and some hate part VII. Kane should get another go. He is a good Jason, two of my favorite looks and my three least favorite looks for Jason, Jason Goes to Hell and both from Jason X
