Every year the Cannes Film Festival debuts and showcases most of the years highly anticipated films. Films can live or die at Cannes. This year was no different. But this year did provide polarizing reviews for a horror genre film, which the festival historically tends to bash and strike down.
Danish film director Nicolas Winding Refns’ 10th feature film The Neon Demon has created such a buzz for itself, that it is quickly rising up everyone’s “Must See” lists. Myself included! Refn has directed recent new cult faves Drive, Bronson and The Pusher Trilogy.
The Neon Demon marks Refns’ first foray into the horror genre. If he can bring his dark tone, sleek imagery and signature style as with his recent films, the result will be a breathtaking and horrific experience. The film will star Elle Fanning, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone and Keanu Reeves.
A brief synopsis of the film from IMDB:
-When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.-
The term ‘Any means necessary’ has piqued my intrigue so much that my patience will be tested, as I manically await the release of this film!
The Neon Demon is set for a limited release, June 24th 2016.
I. CANNOT. WAIT…
