While the horror world awaits the release of the upcoming Child’s Play reboot, we have some news today regarding the proposed television series! It was reported today in Deadline that the upcoming television series has founds its home at SyFy.
Along with this revelation, we have learned that teaming up with Chucky creator Don Mancini producing is Channel Zero series creator Nick Antosca. Mancini will script the show, along with longtime series producer David Kirschner.
From Mancini:
I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us. The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.
Antosca also had this to say:
I worked with Don on Hannibal and on Channel Zero for Syfy, so developing Chucky with UCP really feels like coming home. Syfy is the perfect place to tell the next chapter in the Chucky saga and having the original creative team lead the project will help elevate the story we are excited to tell.
While reactions to the upcoming film reboot have been mixed, there seems to be some more excitement for the television series, no doubt due to the fact that the original creators are involved. At this point production is still in the earliest stages, so it’ll be some time before we see this show, but the news is good nonetheless.
In the original film, “a single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer.”
