May 9th, 1980…
One of the greatest slasher films of all-time was released and it spawned 11 more films to follow. Included are 7 direct sequels, 2 not titled the same as the main series, a verses movie and, to date, one remake. Of course the first Friday the 13th is not as well accepted to some, because there are some people who go in expecting to see Jason and his hockey mask. You have to make it through two full movies before we get to see Jason’s iconic look.
But, Friday the 13th is such a good movie. It is a true Horror/Mystery, a “who done-it”. To me, it came at the right time and could have spawned a completely different franchise of unfortunate events surrounding the superstitious day. Like Halloween could have been, a horror anthology series. Honestly as cool as it sounds, I love the way everything turned out. For me each film gets better and peaks at the 6th movie, Jason Lives, my personal favorite.
Back in 1980, I was born, May 25th. My mother was a big fan of horror and just could not wait to go and see Friday the 13th. She couldn’t get anyone to watch me, so she took me 6 days after I was born to see Friday the 13th!
What is your favorite moment from the original Friday the 13th?
Stay tuned later this week, another Friday the 13th celebrates a birthday and we actually have Friday the 13th on Friday! There are some great pieces of content coming Friday, so follow the Horror Syndicate on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
