Happy Halloween everyone!
“In seeking life, I created death.” – Dr. Victor Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro has finally brought to life the film he’s been dreaming of making for over 30 years, and it shows in every frame. This feels like his most personal and passionate project yet. It’s one of the best adaptations of the story, while deeply faithful to the original while still infused with his own unique vision and creative touch.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein (2025) reimagines Mary Shelley’s classic story with his signature blend of emotion and dark beauty. The film begins with Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but tormented scientist, found near death in the Arctic by a ship’s crew. As they rescue him, a strange and terrifying creature begins to pursue their vessel. Through Victor’s memories, we see how his obsession with conquering death drove him to create life itself, a creature made from the bodies of the dead and given breath through forbidden science.

As the story unfolds, the creature’s loneliness and pain take center stage. Rejected by his creator and shunned by humanity, he searches for understanding and belonging, only to face cruelty and despair. What begins as a story of invention becomes a haunting exploration of love, loss, and the cost of playing god. Del Toro transforms the familiar tale into something deeply human, filled with sorrow, compassion, and breathtaking gothic imagery that captures both the horror and the heartbreak of creation.

Everything about Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein feels alive and carefully crafted. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, and every scene looks like a painting filled with rich colors and haunting light. The sets pull you straight into this dark and beautiful world, from the eerie glow of Victor’s lab to the frozen and lonely landscapes that echo the story’s emotion. The effects never feel overdone; they blend so naturally that the world feels real and almost touchable. It is the kind of movie you can get lost in because every detail and every shadow feels like it is telling part of the story.

The performances are just as powerful. The actors bring so much heart and honesty that you can feel their pain and hope in every moment. The creature’s sadness feels deeply human, and Victor’s obsession slowly consumes him in a way that is both tragic and mesmerizing. The music ties it all together beautifully as it swells, aches, and breathes with the story. Between the acting, the score, and the visuals, everything works in perfect harmony. It is one of those rare films that stays with you long after it ends. Jacob Elordi, who brings a powerful mix of vulnerability and intensity to the role, was fantastic! Classic horror is back.

Guillermo del Toro is one of my all time favorite directors, and this film is a perfect experience for the Halloween season heading into winter. It deserved every award possible, and if you get the chance, please watch it in theaters. Thank you for reading and please watch this film! Hope your Halloween was full of thrills, chills, and fun.
