Last week’s Bloody Streaming Roulette was quite a wildcard I must say. Sion Sono’s Tag (2015) was an ethereal, yet maniacal look at the complexness of life and reality. But it was also a nice jab at the capitalism of humanity as well. It was a big winner with me boils and ghouls. So, now it’s time to come back to the roulette wheel, having won six weeks in a row, I am certain my luck will end at any time.

Fear, Inc. (2016)
Joe, played by Lucas Neff (Raising Hope) is a huge horror nerd like myself. Randomly referencing his favorite films and taking every opportunity to scare his friends. While at a haunted house with his wife he becomes very bored, to the point where he is anticipating all the jump scares. While sharing a snack, they are approached by none other than “The Great Hambino” himself, Patrick Renna (The Sandlot, Dark Ride). He offers them a business card and to call the number on the back, if they ever want to really be scared. During a friendly get together, Joe decides to call the number. What happens next, is a night Joe and his friends will never forget. Is Fear, Inc just a scare tactic business customizing individual scares or is this for real?
This is a really fun film. Any ‘80’s and ‘90’s horror buff will find something to love about this film. All the great slashers are referenced in some way, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and even genre benders like Scream. Even once the flick really gets going and the shit hits the fan, Neff does a hilarious job of just being a horror fan. Still cracking jokes, even after it becomes more than obvious that this company is not just having fun with its customers anymore.
Directed by Vincent Masciale, Fear, Inc truly feels like it was made for diehard horror fans. The types of fans that would get all the movie references and the types of fans we are here at The Horror Syndicate. You also get the feeling that Masciale and writer Luke Barnett are this type of fans as well. The special effects crew led by Hill Vinot, did a wonderful job mimicking deaths from classic horror films. There was some truly great gory goodness in this one. I kept thinking to myself while watching, this was probably a fun film to work on.
Fear, Inc. to me, is a rare diamond in the rough. It was funny, at times scary and truly well done. It was also incredibly fresh with the script, always keeping the viewer guessing. Just when you think you have figured everything out, they pull the rug out from under you and beat the fuck out of you with it. The very same rug that really tied the room together.
Don’t just take my word for it boils and ghouls, check this film out and judge for yourself!
