Today’s lesson, how about a little Satanic panic for you?

Well not today, originally I decided on Rosemary’s baby, but I watched Return of the Living Dead last night and as I sit, I watch its sequel.  The sequel is…not good, in fact they kinda go down hill one after another, well Return of the Living Dead 3 isn’t terrible.

Return of the Living Dead has become a fan favorite zombie movie.  It has comedy, gore and fun characters.  The punks are so much fun, especially Suicide, he is so serious about being a punk.  But then there is Trash and her sexy naked dance on the grave.  I cannot imagine many horror fans who have not seen Return of the Living Dead…but if you haven’t here is a little about the story.

Freddy is starting a new job at Uneeda medical supply warehouse.  He and another co-worker crack this drum that has a zombie in it and the gas that pours out, knocks them out.  The gas gets released into the warehouse and everything, corpses, half dogs and even butterflies.  When they wake up, they call the boss, Burt who is played by Clu Gulager.  Clu Gulager is amazing.  They find the one corpse trying to free itself from the freezer.  They decide to try and kill it and take from Night of the Living Dead and decide to kill the brain.  They let the yellow man out and all hell breaks loose.  They have to chop the body up into little pieces and take him to the crematoria.  They burn the pieces and it unleashes a smoke that makes it rain.  The rain falls over a cemetery, which raises the dead.

Meanwhile, Freddy’s friends, the punks are in the cemetery when the rain falls.  They are able to escape, with the exception of Linnea Quigley or Trash.  Some of them run into the warehouse and are met by Tarman, who was unleashed by Freddy and Frank.  Tarman eats Suicide’s brains and the others run away…ok, yeah that is enough of explaining the story.

Return of the Living Dead is one of the best and most fun zombie movies ever made.  Look at the Walking Dead, look at Return of the Living Dead…which is better..haha.

The effects are great, the cast is great and really fit into their roles.  One of my favorite, absolute favorite thing is the music, the score and the punk rock songs set the tone for the movie.  I really love Return of the Living Dead, it is one of the most fun times you will have watching a zombie movie.  Sure, Shaun of the Dead is fun, and Zombieland is fun, but this is the original zombie party!

Return of the Living Dead is on the Top 100 Horror movies, where do you think it ranks?

I have been watching horror films since I was 6 years old. The story, one Saturday night, my mom and I were watching movies and she fell asleep on the couch. We had the channel set on HBO and the movie we were watching ended and the next one, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. This was some time in 1986. I watched then entire film, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. When my mom woke, she asked me what just ended and I told her, “Freddy”. That was all I talked about for weeks and finally she broke down and rented more horror films for me. She rented, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2, Re-Animator, Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives and Halloween II. I watched all and fell in love with horror films forever. 5 Horror Films to Watch Inferno (1980) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) The Beyond (1981) Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives (1986) Horror of Dracula (1958)
