Bloody Streaming Roulette: Evidence (2013)

Hey there boils and ghouls! It’s me again, ZombiSurvivor back for another round of horror movie pleasure or punishment. You know, playing games can be a tricky thing. After you have won a few and get yourself on a winning streak you begin to feel more confident. Almost unstoppable or invincible. Then along comes something deceiving, that can take the rug out from under you, leaving you flat on your face. Last week, I battled A Christmas Horror Story (2015) and came away victorious! Can I have the same streak of luck I’ve been having as of late? Or has my luck run out?

Enough talk! Spin that shit!

What do we have for this week?

Evidence (2013)

Evidence begins with the aftermath of a horrific crime scene. A destroyed warehouse. Burned bodies litter the area. The stench of charred remains fill the air. A complete massacre with only two survivors. Police are left wondering what took place. Compiling camera and phone video footage from the victims, the police team now must piece together the scraps of footage. Can these bits of film bring a killer to light?

Evidence stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood) and Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill). I want to mention, Mitchell also starred in one of my favorite monster movies in recent years, Rogue (2007). Which I may review in the near future. Any who, these two are the detectives given the duty of piecing the puzzle together to catch the killer. Both do a fantastic job, but Moyer’s performance is most notable as a broken detective trying to get his life and job back on track. The rest of the actors’ performances left much to be desired.

The beginning of the film starts off with a big bang. Very stylish introduction to the flick. Then it immediately loses its steam when they incorporate the found footage. This film bounces from found footage style to normal camera stock pretty often. Which is better than not at all, because at least we’re not stuck with an entire 90 minute jumpy camera. The killer was done quite nicely. Wielding a blow torch as the main weapon. Some of the death scenes were very interesting and some were horrific.

The film itself is just okay. There are bits that were excellent and bits that were unevenly added. The idea behind this movie is nothing new. But the execution of it does set it apart from other ‘to catch a killer’ cop movies. This flick also had a slasher mentality as well. The film ends abruptly, but with an interesting twist that I think makes the movie as a whole worth watching, even if I was left wanting more conclusion. So, I will close this round out by saying, I didn’t love it. But I didn’t hate it either. This was a decent film that can be enjoyed with a couple of brews.

I wouldn’t call this film ‘meh’ either…

Looks we have another winner. Only because it wasn’t that shitty and I don’t believe in draws.

IMDB: 5.4/10

Hey there boils and ghouls! My love of horror films came on a dark and stormy night.... ....Truthfully, it probably happened in 1980-something during a sunny day when I was 5 or 6. That movie was JAWS. I had never been so terrified to go swimming and I live in a land-locked state! I have been a Horror Hound ever since. Having seen hundreds of films, some good and some downright dreadful, my love for horror cinema has grown stronger than ever! My wife Beth and I consume all types of horror films. One of our mutual favorites is A Serbian Film (2010). A couple of my favorite directors are Lucio Fulci and John Carpenter. Contributing here at T.H.S and being able to work with these other folks is an indescribable honor to me. I love our T.H.S team.... I will share secrets after a few drinks and I also enjoy long romantic walks in dimly-lit cemeteries. My fave top 5 films are: 1)Dawn Of The Dead (Original) 2)The Thing (Carpenter's Remake) 3)Zombie 4)The Beyond 5)Friday the 13th pt IV: The Final Chapter Stay Scared! -ZombiSurvivor
