I would not say no to a complete “Retro Review” of Jason Lives. Sometimes I think we have too much content for the Friday the 13th movies. But, is there too much?
30 years ago today the world got to see, what I think is the best Friday the 13th movie of them all. Jason Lives is by far my favorite and the first Friday the 13th I got the chance to see. I was 6 years old and this time, my baby sitter rented it and this comes on the heels of seeing A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. I don’t know what got me about this one, maybe it is totally 80s, maybe it mixes horror with fun and there is even a Gothic element with Jason’s resurrection. I was hooked.
Over the years I would see the others and I do remember my first Friday the 13th marathon, which ended with the Final Chapter. I always wanted to see Jason Lives, it took a while to see it again. In 1996 I was able to buy the series on VHS. I bought four at a time and the first four I bought, Jason Lives, Jason Takes Manhattan, the Final Chapter and The New Blood. I guess I like the later movies better.
Jason Lives is also the last movie before Kane Hodder took over. CJ Graham plays Jason and he did a fine job, I wonder why he was replaced. Jason Lives also closes the book on the Tommy Jarvis Trilogy as some call it. Some may not think it is the best, there is an arguement with The Final Chapter. For me Jason Lives is the best, most fun for sure.
30 years later and it is still a great movie. Watch Jason Lives today!
