Friday the 13th Franchise Body Count

At long last, it is back.  This is another post that comes from my old site, Nightfall Unlimited.  This was possibly the 2nd or 3rd most popular post on the site.  So here we are back at it and what better time than 31 Days of Horror to premiere the body of the Friday the 13th film series.

I try every time friday the 13th comes up.  I always want to write a post about the legendary film series, yes legendary. Look if a film series can spawn 11 sequels and a remake, it is legendary in my book. Only one movie away from 13 film, movie series.  This time I figured I would try and tackle the body count of the series, including Mrs. Voorhees. I have seen many pictures, posts and other things on the Internet about the timeline and body count of Jason Voorhees. I decided to break it down per film and give my favorite kill from each Friday the 13th film. When I say break down, I mean how many kills are performed, I will not get I to who and how, just the sheer number and my favorite kills, morbid much?  On with the list, yep another list, you know me and my lists. Get the Friday the 13th series on Blu ray here and Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History Of Friday The 13th here.

Remember, I sat down and watched every single movie, with a pen and paper to document kills.  Who killed who and how they died.  It was a long process and turned out to be a lot of fun.  Soon, I will do one for the Halloween franchise and possible A Nightmare on Elm Street.  It would give me good reason to watch the series again, like I need a reason.  These are my favorite horror series, as I grew up with them.

Friday the 13th (1980)

Of course everyone knows that this film, Jason is not the killer.  It is his mother and because of her murder he goes on a rampage.  In the film Pamela Voorhees racks up a good amount of kills and in her mind they all deserve it.

Pamela Voorhees 9 kills

Alice Hardy 1 kill and she decapitates Pamela Voorhees with machete.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th…

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)

Jason goes after the next group of campers near Crystal Lake in part 2.

Jason Voorhees 10 kills in his first appearance.  Bringing the overall total to 20.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th part 2…

Friday the 13th part III (1982)

I am gonna just get right to the point.

Jason Voorhees 12 kills, some count the unborn baby in Debby, I am not.  That brings the total to 32 kills, Jason now with 22.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th part III…Vera…

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)

This is one of the fan favorites.

Jason Voorhees 13 kills and overall for him, 35 and the series we are up 45 unless you count Tommy Jarvis and his sister Trish killing Jason, even if he comes back.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th: the Final Chapter…Why not Jason?

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)

Jason is dead, truly dead for the moment and we have a copy cat killer.  Lets not forget to mention multiple killers in this film, like Vic.  Jason does appear in a dream sequence, but I will not count those 2.  Tommy kills Pam and then Pam, Reckless Reggie and Tommy all kill Roy.  Oh yeah Roy is the killer.  This movie is very original and I love it after so many years.  Roy really gets into his work and kills 17 people all because of his fat, crazy son was killed by Vic.  Thanks Vic!  Out of line!

Roy Burns 17 kills, Tommy Jarvis 1, Pam, Reggie and Tommy 1, Vic 1 and Jason Voorhees 2 dream kills.  Totaling 22 kills in this film.

Jason Voorhees kills stays at 35, but for the series 67.  That is a 13.4 KRPF(Kill rate per film).

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning…DEMON!!!  Your gonna get it Bitch!  Best line in the series.

Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives (1986)

I love this film.  As I have said before it is my first Friday film I have ever seen and I think it is underrated.

Jason is back and he is pissed off and beats Roy Burns record for kills in a film with 18 kills.  Jason has killed 53 at this point and the total for the series is 85.  14.2 KRPF.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives…Sheriff Garris…

Friday the 13th VII: the New Blood (1988)

I love it when the writers try to do something different, this was a little different compared to the others.  The supernatural element really reared its head in this film and Jason finally me his match in Tina Shepard who has telekinetic powers.  It is one of the better films in the series.

Jason Voorhees 15 kills and now 68 overall and total kills up to 101, by the way Tina kills her dad in the beginning of the film.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th VII: the New Blood…

Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Take Manhattan (1989)

This is the weakest of the series.  But it is still fun and has one of my favorite kills in the series.  Let me set this up, Jason basically sinks a ship and kills a bunch of people, but this tough guy boxer thinks he can box Jason to death, come on Julius.

Jason Voorhees kills 18 kills in this film and two other kills not by Jason’s hands.  This brings Jason’s kill count to 86 and the overall 121. 15.1 kills per film.

and for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Take Manhattan…Julius the boxer

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)

This one is tricky, do we count the possessed as kills by Jason?  Another shot at a different approach and for me, it is ok.  but again do we count the possessed kills on Jason?  I say yes, the possessed does not have control over what is happening.

Jason Voorhees kills 22 in this film, in one form or another.  There are 2 other kills both accidents bringing the death toll Jason with 108 and a total 145.

And for my favorite kill in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday…Yeesh, this movie is terrible, how about favorite moment?

Freddy vs Jason (2003)

Yeah this was a fun film, but I don’t know I honestly did not wanna add this or the remake, but what the hell.

Jason Voorhees 19 kills, Freddy Krueger 1 and overall 20, this puts the total number for Jason 117 and overall 165.

And for my favorite kill in Freddy vs Jason…

Jason X (2001)

I was never really a big fan of this film, it was fun but mostly ridiculous. It does serve us one of the coolest kills in the series.

Jason Voorhees kills 21 people in this film, bringing his total to 138.  Overall the kills in this film 24 and 189 in the series.

And for my favorite kill in Jason X…

Friday the 13th (2009)

The remake could almost serve as a sequel to the original films.  But it is a remake and as of now a waste.  I wanted to see more films and still do, I wouldn’t mind going back to a time before Freddy vs Jason or a film between part VIII and Jason to Hell.

Jason Voorhees kills 13 more people and ends his run…for now.  Also we see Pamela Voorhees die again.  Overall we get 151 kills by Jason that are not a dream or virtual reality.  And 203 people die overall, again not in dreams or virtual reality.  So Jason kills 15.1 kills per film and overall the body count for all 12 films is 16.9.

And for my favorite kill in Friday the 13th 2009…

So that is the list I hope you liked it and have a great Friday the 13th whenever they come around, remember he is out there…

I have been watching horror films since I was 6 years old. The story, one Saturday night, my mom and I were watching movies and she fell asleep on the couch. We had the channel set on HBO and the movie we were watching ended and the next one, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. This was some time in 1986. I watched then entire film, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. When my mom woke, she asked me what just ended and I told her, “Freddy”. That was all I talked about for weeks and finally she broke down and rented more horror films for me. She rented, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2, Re-Animator, Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives and Halloween II. I watched all and fell in love with horror films forever. 5 Horror Films to Watch Inferno (1980) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) The Beyond (1981) Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives (1986) Horror of Dracula (1958)
