Worst to Best: Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street

I found this on a message board, Rank em: Friday, Nightmare & Halloween films(no longer up). I began thinking about my list and where the films would fall. This person’s list is not the best. I would do it very differently…so here we are. I am once again voicing my opinion about horror films. This time, I am doing the big three Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. All 30 films, in order from worst to first.

This is my list, my opinion, take it how you want. It was hard to come up with and I have played with the order a couple of different ways. I love all three of these horror series. I grew up with each and while they are similar, they are very different.

Halloween seems to be more set in reality and is very grounded.

Friday the 13th is all about the kill, it has camp moments and to me, is all about the fun. I like the way the series is broken up. The first film, Jason’s mother is the killer and it is a “who done it”? The next 3 were all Jason, Jason dies and we get an impostor Jason, then Jason is back for 3 more before the series jumps off the deep end with Jason goes to Hell and Jason X.

A Nightmare on Elm Street, started as a serious horror film series and went down hill. But it is totally supernatural.

So, what do you think? I challenge you to come up with you’re own list, it is not easy. I do seem to favor the Nightmare films. But I know Halloween is one of the most amazing and ground breaking horror films ever. A Nightmare on Elm Street goes beyond the slasher genre and it is so much more.

Thanks for checking this out.

I have been watching horror films since I was 6 years old. The story, one Saturday night, my mom and I were watching movies and she fell asleep on the couch. We had the channel set on HBO and the movie we were watching ended and the next one, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. This was some time in 1986. I watched then entire film, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. When my mom woke, she asked me what just ended and I told her, “Freddy”. That was all I talked about for weeks and finally she broke down and rented more horror films for me. She rented, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2, Re-Animator, Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives and Halloween II. I watched all and fell in love with horror films forever. 5 Horror Films to Watch Inferno (1980) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) The Beyond (1981) Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives (1986) Horror of Dracula (1958)
