Yesterday we did a post for some movies on Netflix. Hulu is a different animal with a different glass of horror. While Netflix does have some classics, it seems they are more geared to newer horror movies. Every movie on our list is from 2010 and above. I have both Hulu Plus and Netflix and I prefer Hulu’s ever changing horror selection and this October there are some good ones.
This list will not be about newer horror, this one is all about 10 things that you just need to see if you subscribe to Hulu Plus. Of course there are honorable mentions, like the Ginger Snaps series, Child’s Play, Hellraiser, Killer Clowns of From Outer Space. Silence of the Lambs and so many others. Oh, if you want some off the wall fun, there are a lot of Full Moon Entertainment movies, Subspecies, Puppet Master and others. Also, a good amount of Elivra’s Movie Macabre. To me, if you like horror, get on Hulu Plus, because their selection changes more and it seems to be better to me. But you don’t have to listen to me, head over to Hulu.com and check for yourself.
Here are 10 movies, I, Rayzor have picked out for you to watch before Halloween! Don’t forget Hulu also has a trailer section so you can check out all the new trailers, that is something Netflix lacks.
Once again, there is no order, this is not a top 10, just 10 movies you must watch on Hulu.
The Amityville Horror (1979)
This is the classic movie when the Lutz family finds their dream home, strange things happen. Netflix has the shit, 2005 version, Hulu 1 – Netflix 0. Although, Hulu has both.
The Others (2001)
So, you want a creepy ghost story? The Others is for you, it has a huge creep factor and it is filmed really well. There are some truly frightening things that happen in this one and the ending is truly very good.
The House of the Devil (2009)
This is one of my favorites in recent years. If you choose to watch the House of the Devil, I will tell you one, thing…do not give up on it, it is a slow burn. Burned to perfection. I love it, let me know what you think. I mentioned Ti West the last time, this was the movie to turn me on to his work.
Eraserhead (1977)
I am not 100% sure what to say. This movie is very un-nerving and I don’t really know how to explain it at all. Is it a horror movie? I don’t know, it is a must see for sure. It is a David Lynch film, does that help?
Day of the Dead (1985)
George A. Romero has given us some of the very best zombie movies. Day of the Dead may be his finest work. It really feels desperate and these are the last surviving humans on Earth. The effects are fantastic, it may be Savini’s finest work.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Panic, no one to trust…I love this movie and it is a must see for every horror fan.
Puppet Master (1989)
A hotel with secrets, strange secrets. Puppet Master may be an acquired taste, but I love it. It is spooky and strange and probably the most well known Full Moon Entertainment movie. When you finish Puppet Master, check out part 2!
Carrie (1976)
A creepy girl, no friends and everyone teases her. Her mother is a religious zealot. Creepy Carrie! From the mind of Stephen King. Classic movie that has been remade two times and has a sequel. Watch the original, it is so good.
Demons (1985)
What can I say about Demons? It is such a great movie, gore, fun and more punks. The question has come up, are Demons, zombies? That is a loaded question…
Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990)
I love horror anthologies, this is something I don’t understand…why are they not more popular? Three or Four different short horror movies in one collection.
Tales from the Darkside was originally intended to be Creepshow 3. Tom Savini says it is Creepshow 3. Good stories in each segment, perfect for the Halloween season.
So, if you jump on Hulu and you see some of the movies are on Showtime, you do have to pay for that as well. Every movie listed is not on Showtime, but there are good ones on there. I hope you look at this list and watch some of these, we are only a few days away from Halloween and now is the time to watch scary movies!
