Bloody Streaming Roulette: Honeymoon (2014)

I took a couple weeks hiatus from this segment to enjoy some real quality family time. Buying a new house and moving can be quite taxing. But now I’m back with a vengeance boils and ghouls! Yep, ZombiSurvivor IS BACK! All corniness aside, I blindly fell into this movie in of all places, the Emergency Room. Since I had time to kill, I figured what better time to play some Bloody Streaming Roulette.

Honeymoon (2014)

Starring Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) and the great Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful, Cockney’s vs Zombies). Honeymoon begins as a young married couple go to a family cabin on their, you guessed it, honeymoon! The couple is young and in love. So much in love, it is almost nauseating. After about a half an hour of flirty and clichéd love lines to one another, the movie finally starts. Out of the blue, Paul (Treadaway), wakes up in the middle of the night and notices that his new bride is not in bed beside him. Frantically, he storms around the house. Paul makes his way out into the woods, only to find Bea (Leslie) naked, shivering and in some sort of trance.

What happened to Bea?

The first couple of nights things went back to normal. But from this point on, the film turns into a psychological drama. Bea keeps forgetting things. Mundane things, like forgetting to crush the coffee beans before it brews or forgetting to batter the bread, before cooking french toast. Bea’s forgetfulness only grows as does Paul’s fear and trepidation. Worried with no way to comfort her, Paul begins thinking the worst, that maybe she doesn’t love him anymore. honey2As the film progresses to the 3rd act, Bea and Paul’s relationship is consistently spiraling out of control. Yelling, fighting, paranoia, confusion, mistrust and lies. You almost start to wonder why these kids got married in the first place. But all of these factors culminate to a surprising, very unexpected and chilling finale that will surely leave some of the viewers shaking their heads. Some of you will probably say ‘WHAT THE FUCK!?’ at some point towards the end.

Overall the film was okay. Rose Leslie’s acting was a bit over the top. Treadaway was great as usual. Which was a bit off-putting, because other than a two minute scene at the diner, Leslie and Treadaway are the only actors the entire movie. The first 35-40 minutes were dreadfully slow and almost felt like I was watching a romantic drama. But once characters behaviors begin to change, so does the tone of the film. Which I thought was really neat. In the first two acts the music was light and whimsical with young love in the air. The third acts score was more foreboding and filled with dread. Finally I felt like I was watching a horror film. I believe the only saving grace of this one is the final 20 minutes. It actually made me cringe at one point. But you’ll have to watch to find out. Gruesome stuff!

Looks like we have another WINNER! But as I said, there’s a lot going wrong with this one. But if you can stay with it and get past the few negatives, you will surely be glad when you reach the horrific positive!

Hey there boils and ghouls! My love of horror films came on a dark and stormy night.... ....Truthfully, it probably happened in 1980-something during a sunny day when I was 5 or 6. That movie was JAWS. I had never been so terrified to go swimming and I live in a land-locked state! I have been a Horror Hound ever since. Having seen hundreds of films, some good and some downright dreadful, my love for horror cinema has grown stronger than ever! My wife Beth and I consume all types of horror films. One of our mutual favorites is A Serbian Film (2010). A couple of my favorite directors are Lucio Fulci and John Carpenter. Contributing here at T.H.S and being able to work with these other folks is an indescribable honor to me. I love our T.H.S team.... I will share secrets after a few drinks and I also enjoy long romantic walks in dimly-lit cemeteries. My fave top 5 films are: 1)Dawn Of The Dead (Original) 2)The Thing (Carpenter's Remake) 3)Zombie 4)The Beyond 5)Friday the 13th pt IV: The Final Chapter Stay Scared! -ZombiSurvivor
