I don’t know. Measuring the Resident Evil theatrical films on a really low scale, this could be considered the best. It’s not clear as to why they went this route and how lucky the survivors of the second movie have been to this point any way. Resident Evil has found a way to dispatch any survivors from the previous movie, in the following movie. This is no different. Did you like LJ or Carlos? Welp, say good bye because it is extinction time!
Synopsis:
Captured by the Umbrella Corp., Alice (Milla Jovovich) receives genetic alterations that leave her with superhuman abilities. Hiding out in the Nevada desert, she joins forces with former cohorts Carlos (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps) as well as new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to eradicate the virus that threatens to turn every human on Earth into a zombie.
I do like these movies, I promise. I have a soft spot and respect for the filmmakers for not following the games. That is something I did want, but I understand why it isn’t what we got.
In this one, Alice is on her own riding her motorcycle through a desert Wasteland looking for survivors. She looks really badass in this one and she is cooler than ever in my opion. Eventually she meets up with Claire Redfield and her misfits which happend to have Carlos Oliviera and LJ from the Apocalypse film. When Alice begins to show these, other worldly powers, it kind of paints a target on the group’s back. Really all they want is a cigarette, but they get what’s left of Umbrealla coming after them.
As with the other two movies, this one is ridiculous, but fun. I really enjoyed the multiple copies of Alice making their way through a “fun house” and once killed, being dumped in the desert. I will also mention, how convenient it is that everyone is in the desert, including Dr. Isaacs.
We get some great Zombie scenes in Extinction and an awesome fight with Alice and Dr. Isaacs, who becomes the Tyrant. That in itself is a high point. Overall, Extinction is fun and wild and yes, it does move the story forward and leaves us with a kind of cliffhanger for the next film.
