Since the COVID pandemic started in March of last year, the live events industry took a big hit. Horror fans were disappointed as their favorite conventions started to be postponed, or cancelled. Now, nearly a year and a half later, conventions have come back in full swing.
While conventions have been back for a few months, for me, it hasn’t felt official until now, with two of the biggest and best horror conventions, Texas Frightmare, and Horrorhound Weekend officially returning tonight!
Texas Frightmare and Horrorhound Weekend usually don’t take place around the same time. Horrorhound usually holds one convention in March, and another in September. Texas Frightmare usually holds it’s convention the first weekend of May, but decided to push back their 15th anniversary one last time, landing them with a September date, that just so happened to coincide with this year’s Horrorhound.
Of course just because the conventions are happening, doesn’t mean the pandemic is over, and that these live events have been a breeze to put on. Each convention has to make the tough decision of whether or not to enforce a mask mandate at their event, or require proof of vaccination. In the case of these two cons, both are requiring guests to where face masks during the convention, but not during professional photo Ops. Each celebrity guest will decide whether or not to allow selfies, the removal of masks during selfies, and contact at their table. They’ve also had to deal with more cancellations from guests than usual.
With Texas Frightmare taking place in Dallas, Texas, and Horrorhound taking place in Cincinnati, Ohio, and both cons having a full line up of guests, panels and events, horror fans across the country are sure to have a blast this weekend, no matter which convention they decide to attend!
